Instruments and Technology

For some years I have played a Yamaha silent guitar as well as a traditional acoustic classical guitar with nylon strings (see photo). The Yamaha guitar can be used with earphones or plugged into an amp. I also use it to record directly to the computer using Pro Tools. For an amp, I have a Roland Jazz Chorus 120 that I use when accompanying students or if I have to play outdoors or in another area in which the guitar sound needs to project to match another instrument.

When composing, I use Finale for guitar which enables me not only to write or arrange music but also to play it back using different instrumental sounds. As I learned in the electronic music class, it is possible to compose a piece of music for orchestral instruments, assign instruments to each part, perform it electronically and produce a CD. I can also have the keyboard play music that is in Pro Tools on the computer.
