Why I Play the Guitar

Despite the technological capabilities of computers and electronically enhanced instruments, there is still a great satisfaction in getting together with others and playing a piece of music that may have been written up to 400 years ago on an acoustic guitar. To play this music is to hear and feel the emotions of the composer and the mood of the time in which he or she lived.

The classical guitar and its techniques are not just relics of the past. The guitar pieces are used in movie scores such as the Cavatina by Stanley Myers written for the movie The Deer Hunter. Groups like the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet are also exploring new horizons in music for a group of guitars.

Learning the guitar is for me a lifelong experience that I enjoy sharing with others.
